Excel Istext Formula

Learn how to use Excel Istext Formula:

Excel Istext formula test if a cell has text or not. It returns True if the value in cell is Text, otherwise False. For Example, “ABC” is a text and Istext Formula will return True.

Istext Function Syntax: Istext(value)

Value: Value that has to be evaluated if it is a Text.

Few Examples on Excel Istext Formula are shown below.

Row No – 2: ABC is a Text and formula returns True.
Row No – 3:  123 is a Number and formula returns False.
Row No – 4: ABC123 is a Text and formula returns True.
Row No – 5: Data entered within Double Quotes (*) is always text. Formula returns True.
Row No – 6: 123 is a Number and it has been entered directly within the Istext formula without using Double Quotes. Formula returns False.
Row No – 7: 123 is a Number but it has been entered within Double Quotes (*). Anything entered within Double Quotes is Text. Formula returns True.
Row No – 8: ABC123 in Double Quotes is a Text. Formula returns True.
